Revenue is a big carrot to ignore, especially when its potential is removed altogether.

Liberality

What a great word! I had to look it up:

… the trait of being generous in behavior and temperament.
The Free Online Dictionary

Why would I look up this word? Well, as some may know, I like reading quotes and to get my daily fill I recieve quotes from the book “Many Thoughts of Many Minds” via the services provided at DailyLit.com

This is the quote that inspired today’s post:

If you are poor, distinguish yourself by your virtues; if rich, by your good deeds.
Joseph Joubert

Patience

Biding ones time is likely the most common form of patience shown, or in other words patience is the art of waiting; but, what does waiting accomplish for the patient person?

You may often gain a clearer picture of a situation with unseen influences and unknown circumstances becoming apparent after a judicious application of patience.

The patient fisherman waits for just the right moment to set the hook before reeling in their catch. The seasoned farmer practices patience waiting to reap the greatest harvest. A wily adversary will wait patiently for their opponent to make an error and capitalize on it.

… and some would even say:

Revenge is a dish best served cold.
an old French proverb*

*NB: In early literature this proverb is used, usually, to persuade another to forestall vengeance until wisdom can reassert itself although this ideal is lost in more recent occurrences found in literature and the cinema.

Mallory-Everest Ideas

I have often used Hillary-Everest as a term for describing an idea that may or may not have any redeeming quality or usefulness. After a bit of research, I have found I mistakenly coined the term based on George Mallory‘s famous quote:

Because it’s there.

… although this quote by Sir Edmund Hillary would still support my term:

Nobody climbs mountains for scientific reasons. Science is used to raise money for the expeditions, but you really climb for the hell of it.

I use Hillary-Everest to describe ideas that are more proof of concept than a requirement and I may still use it out of habit; but, it seems a Mallory-Everest idea may be just as, or possibly more, descriptive.

Which would you use?

Changes

If you want to make changes for the good then positive actions, words and deeds alike, will speak louder than any grumbling or grousing could ever accomplish. Put your heart into it and really make an effort; you will likely be pleasantly surprised by the outcome. Today’s musing was inspired by the following:

Nothing is easier than fault-finding. No talent, no self-denial, no brains, no character, is required to set up in the grumbling business; but those who are moved by a genuine desire to do good have little time for murmuring or complaint.
Robert West

Support

Do not extinguish the spark of creativity with threats and badgering; fuel it with compassion and understanding, and let the artist breathe life into the soul of their community.

Freedom

Choose to be free in your heart and mind and you will live your life in joy and happiness. There is nothing more precious than the freedom of being alive and foolish to squander it in the doldrums of drudgery and sullenness.
