Content Matters Most

When presenting ideas, or ideals, the delivery is quite likely the most important aspect of getting the points across. You can dress up an idea in bold colors and flashing lights but if there is no substance to the topic what benefits will all the glitz and glitter bring.

Content is king … let the jesters play on the side.

When you write, or speak, do so clearly and succinctly; and, remain focused on the topic at hand. All of the digital dancing bears or funny props only detract from the message, the topic deserves to be presented in an appropriate fashion. That does not mean humor and fancy should not be used, but simply means it should be used wisely. The content matters most … the fluff surrounding it, not so much.

I offered the quote above as encouragement in a comment here. This idea speaks to reader and listener alike: consider the message, not the messenger, when addressing the usefulness of the presentation.

Enter Title Here

Enter title here … seems like as good as place as any to start a post. This little cue phrase is new in the latest version of WordPress and I am still not sure if it is a help or a hindrance to actually getting started.

I am still blocked, but only slightly, as I am starting to type this post out and realize it is simply a rambling of words … and to that I say, “HA … take that you empty page!” Perhaps I should write empty textarea but that is neither here nor there as long as I can reduce the empty space it holds. Which reminds me of something I wrote what now seems like ages ago:

The release is in the writing; prose to free the mind and unfetter the soul.

… and so I write. Why do you write?

Four Words

Sometimes you have to step out of your comfort zone, put aside your fears and push ahead.

Fortune favors the bold.
Cicero

Four words to take to heart when you are not sure if or even how to go forward.

Do Try

I believe you always need to strive for improvement. Sometimes you make mistakes along the way …

If you’re not making mistakes, you’re not trying hard enough
Vince Lombardi, football coach

… which is followed by:

Do … or do not. There is no try.
Yoda, Jedi master

To succeed at reaching your goals you cannot stop until you reach them … then you set higher goals.

Futures

What we see depends mainly on what we look for – Seek out the positive and you’ll find it.
unknown

… found inside a fortune cookie after dinner tonight. The future looks bright!

Fame

Live for something! Do good and leave behind you a monument of virtue that the storm of time can never destroy. Write your name in kindness, love, and mercy on the hearts of the thousands you come in contact with, year by year, and you will never be forgotten. Your name, your deeds, will be as legible on the hearts you leave behind, as the stars on the brow of evening. Good deeds will shine as the stars of heaven.
Thomas Chalmers

Quotations

I have always been intrigued by quotes. I like to collect them. Quotes are my snippets of inspiration.

As a reader, you may find a particular quote I found interesting posted here. These quotes may be a collection of words that made me think, made me ponder their obvious meaning, orĀ  perhaps a meaning that is not so obvious.

The written word can be ambiguous in comparison to the spoken word. Each can be quoted. Each can carry a tone or connotation built on the inflections found in the speaker’s voice. A voice that can jump off the page at you or ring clearly in your ears. One as powerful as the other.

What is your favorite quote?

Ideals and Ideas

I found these quotes at essentially the same time and an interesting thought came to mind.

An invasion of armies can be resisted, but not an idea whose time has come.
Victor Hugo

Man is ready to die for an idea, provided that idea is not quite clear to him.
Paul Eldridge

There is no nonsense so gross that society will not, at some time, make a doctrine of it and defend it with every weapon of communal stupidity.
Robertson Davies

The wisdom of a society is found in its ideals and its folly found in its ideas.
