Write Polite

The use of foul language to express yourself in writing is generally nothing more than self adulation. The use of common curse words when speaking passionately to make an explicit point may be understandable but to use the same language in writing does nothing to improve the context of the message being made.

When you speak you cannot unsay your words; when you write, you can edit them. There is no good reason one cannot simply go back over their prose and choose more appropriate words to use that better speak to their audience and the public in general that may come across their writings.

It is simply rude and obtuse to use swearing in the written word, for most cases, but if you do have the undeniable urge to curse at least be creative in the way you do it.

It’s just a pet peeve of mine, you can feel free to tell me to go to h3!!

Pi and I

Last month I recapped the Toronto WordPress June 2010 Meetup and wrote about the new friends from China I met on the TTC subway system. I did not think to take any pictures myself, but most of these visitors did. I asked one to send me a copy and was very happy to open my email this morning and find this picture from Pi Yizhou:

Do You Know Me?

It seems every so often my wife, myself, or the both of us will get the family tree itch and start looking through old records, pictures or whatever other sources we find; and, since we are on vacation this seemed like a great past time for when it is simply too hot to do anything outside … and so we have started, again.

The number of people are adding up quickly in each or our respective family trees. I believe we will use the online versions available at Ancestry.com. You can currently visit Terri’s or my respective trees at:

A lot of the information in my family tree is from memory with help from mom (thanks). A few more branches were found with some research based on the starting points we worked out, but unfortunately no one seems to recall much about my father. I have not seen him since I was about two years old, although I do have a picture of us together likely sometime in 1967:

l-r: Joseph Caissie and son Edward Joseph Alexandre Caissie

I also have a generation photo. This picture has four generations including myself from my mother’s side of the family. In the front, I am sitting on my mother’s (Karen Morin) lap. Next to us is my maternal grandmother Winnifred Ferguson nee Homer; and, her mother Gertrude:

l-r: Karen Morin, Edward Caissie, Winnifred Homer, Gertrude

Have you traced your family tree? Are you part of our family? Do you know me … or my dad?

Vacation July 2010

Technically I started vacation Friday but yesterday was the real beginning.

[rant] Friday was three hours of “live help”-less support from my current Internet services provider. After threatening the CSR with canceling the service I was finally able to force them to try and help. Unfortunately the person did not have the skill set to do the job. I eventually sorted through the issue on my own well enough to restore full Internet service at the cost of my VoIP services … can you say not happy? [/rant]

Yesterday … yesterday was a great day! We had to take our foster bunny Peanut in to our vet for a minor treatment. He needed his teeth trimmed due to malocclusion of his incisors. Afterward we returned home with Peanut, then my wife and I went for lunch.

My wife decided to surprise me with the place so we got into the car and she said we’re going to Port Credit.

We ended up at Snug Harbor on one of their patios and enjoyed a great fresh fish lunch which I washed down with a couple of pints of my favorite beer, Stella Artois. We then walked along the pier to the lighthouse at the end taking a few pictures along the way.

There were some rowers in single, double, and four-man with coxswain; some young men clowning around on the edge of the causeway; numerous seagulls; and some friendly graffiti, too. Check out the gallery below.

Happy Anniversary

I met my wife, Terri, sixteen years ago today … and we are still going strong. We were married less than a year later on March 24 and we have not looked back.

Value

I have reluctantly realized if a customer wants to spend their money you should just let them … as long as you also make sure they are getting equal or greater value in return. There’s no reason to turn away business as long as all involved are getting what they want out of the transaction.

Where Have You Read Today?

Did you know I have several WordPress powered web sites? Of course you do! This is one, my personal domain, where I often let my writings ramble and wander and sometimes even I have no idea where they will go.

BuyNowShop.com is another WordPress powered web site I own and operate. I often refer to it as BNS and use those initials on the plugins I write and release for mine and other WordPress.org powered web sites. If you are looking for information about my WordPress themes or plugins feel free to drop by and have a read. Each has their own page, leave a complaint or a compliment … constructive criticism is always welcome.

If you want to read about an interesting function, pick up a tip, or a trick to improve or customize your WordPress web site then surf over to another of my web sites, WPFirstAid.com and find code behind some of the functions and features I have used in my themes and plugins. Explained and free to use on your own site or in your own WordPress theme or plugin, too.

… and last but not least, visit my first WordPress powered web site where it all started: Rattitude.com. This is where you will find information about fancy pet rats and other related items of interest. Find out about these marvelous companion animals and maybe learn why I say, rat … the new dog!

Enter Title Here

Enter title here … seems like as good as place as any to start a post. This little cue phrase is new in the latest version of WordPress and I am still not sure if it is a help or a hindrance to actually getting started.

I am still blocked, but only slightly, as I am starting to type this post out and realize it is simply a rambling of words … and to that I say, “HA … take that you empty page!” Perhaps I should write empty textarea but that is neither here nor there as long as I can reduce the empty space it holds. Which reminds me of something I wrote what now seems like ages ago:

The release is in the writing; prose to free the mind and unfetter the soul.

… and so I write. Why do you write?

Cheers!

A picture is indeed worth a thousand words.

It’s Friday night and we are just sitting back and relaxing with our liquid liberation!

These glasses, filled with Stella Artois, are currently available at the LCBO; and, since this is one of our favorite beers we could not resist buying two gift boxes, each containing a glass and a bottle of beer.

An interesting thing to note, the beer tastes just that much better when drank from these glass … are you as thirsty as I am?

New Domains

Although I will often think of a great domain name when I check for it’s availability more often than not someone thought of the idea first.

This month I was much more imaginative … or lucky depending on your perspective. I have acquired the following domains, all currently parked on top of this site:

I have some interesting ideas I am considering for each of these domains but as I find my time being consumed by a new project I will just consider them for their potential.

Have you registered a great domain recently? What will you do with it?
