It’s Monday … and that’s not a bad thing.
Technically speaking, after work today will be one year as Lead Happiness Engineer, NextGEN Gallery. It feels like just yesterday … well maybe last week sometime, I was writing a post about quitting my job. There is no way it’s been a year with the fine people at Photocrati Media, but it has; and, to tell the truth, I cannot wait for the next year … and the years after that.
It has been a bit of a tumultuous ride with all of the hard work going into NextGEN Gallery but well worth the effort; the expected, but seldom required late nights and weekends; and, the multitude of releases of the NextGEN Gallery plugin for WordPress. That’s also not to mention NextGEN Plus and NextGEN Pro (can you say eCommerce!!) releases extending the NextGEN Gallery plugin.
Everyone at Photocrati is great! The Support team is phenomenal; our developers keep working diligently at squashing bugs and adding new features; the folks behind the scenes who deserve more recognition than they get; and, our team leader … faith, hope, and charity meet your poster boy!
This past year has been a blessing and I look forward to many more in a continued bright and prosperous future …
… and just as I was about to publish this post, I took a moment to go back to my first day as Lead Happiness Engineer – NextGEN Gallery and the most amazing thing occurred to me, what I wrote that first day still applies every day.
Thank you!
Terri and I have been vacationing on the West Coast for the last week (we still have a couple more days ahead of us) but I thought it would be a good time to get the ball rolling on what to expect for the next several posts.
After meeting Terri in Fort Worth, Texas we flew to San Francisco, California the following morning; rented a car (a lower-end version of our own Chevrolet Impala); and, headed south. We had an adventure in Big Basin as we followed El Honda Road to Old El Honda Road. As a side-note, the Old El Honda Road into Big Basin is not for the feint of heart as it basically narrows down to a single lane mountain side road with no guard rails or any sort of safety measures aside from your driving skills and nerves of steel. Once settled into the seaside city of Monterey we took day trips and visited the famous Monterey Aquarium and Cannery Row as well as the 17 Mile Drive and some of the State Parks found nearby.
After four days, we headed back north to San Francisco to spend the rest of our vacation time in and about the city. We cruised the bay, visited with the Sea Lions, spent some time on the more famous Whaler’s Wharf and also the world re-known Pier 39 as well. We visited the Golden Gate Bridge via boat tour, bus tour, and even made our way to Sausalito for a quick pass through visit.
I have over 2000 pictures (so far) to review and process … and share. I hope you will enjoy them as much as I have enjoyed this vacation so far.
Wow … what a day!
Day one as the Lead Happiness Engineer – NextGEN Gallery at Photocrati Media was quite an experience.
Today I was challenged.
Today I laughed out loud, digitally and working at my desk.
Today I was humbled.
Today I was exhilarated.
Today I was engaged, involved, drawn-in and blown away … all at once.
Today was one of the best days I have ever had …
… and probably the best thing about today, I get to do it all again tomorrow!
PS: If you were playing along from home and didn’t guess this was what I was referring to when I quit my job, now you know.
Last week I quit my job. Perhaps you read the post …
… and although my role was multifaceted it predominantly revolved around Custom Service related tasks as well as Purchasing, Inventory Management and related responsibilities. Last week, one of the team members was on holidays so I made sure to pick up the slack and began preparations for what I was hoping would be an easy transition period for the Customer Service team (and the new owners).
Today, I arrived early. I was prepared to start the transition process with the other Customer Service team members only to find out they both called in sick?!
Tomorrow will be four more days …
Wow … has it really been six weeks?! I’m still alive … really, I am.
You will just have to trust me on this; or feel free to consider this a true ghost writer experience.
I have been busy with keeping my WordPress projects up-to-date, as well as coming up with a couple of new WordPress plugin ideas … both will hopefully be more than Mallory-Everest ideas.
There are big changes coming up in the next six weeks, too. No official announcements, yet … just this little teaser before I get back to being a lot more busier than I have been in quite some time.
I just submitted a patch file as an enhancement for the default comment form used in WordPress.
Here is the ticket: http://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/23870
I would be interested in any comments, please feel free to add your ideas below.
I just released Opus Primus to the WordPress Extend Themes repository; or, in other words Opus Primus is in the theme review queue and hopefully will be live within the month.
This was a project I spent a great deal of time on with no regrets. It did not interfere with my ability to provide WordPress services to my existing clients nor did it stop me from taking on more clients, but it did keep me busy between “paying” projects. Now, with Opus Primus in “waiting to be reviewed” mode, I once again have “free” time to review new project offers.
Wow … my first patch: s/Santizes/Sanitizes/ in phpdoc for sanitize_html_class(). props cais. fixes #22890. #WordPress
